A service for Vemalley "Mac" McCold, 82, will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Veteran's Cemetery in Fernley with a celebration of life to follow at 3 p.m. in the American Legion Hall, 730 Fourth St., Sparks.
Mr. McCold died Feb. 21, 2003 at his daughter's home in Las Vegas. He was born Nov. 22, 1920, in Bowling Green, Ky., to Thomas V. and Necia Lee Sykes McCold. He came to the Reno area with his family in 1935.
Mr. McCold spent three years in the Navy Sea Bees in the South Pacific where he received training for a career as an operating engineer. As a heavy equipment operator, he worked for Isbelle Construction, Helms Construction and other local construction companies. He was also self-employed. He was a 52-year member of IUOE Local No. 3, was a past member of the Eagles Club, Lions Club, F&AM and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, three brothers, a son and a great-grandson.
Among his survivors are: wife of 60 years Virginia of Sparks; sisters LaNeva Zamboni of Doyle, Calif. and Nitah Ralph of Rancho Cordova, Calif.; daughters and sons-in-law Trunecia and Andy Eason of Sparks, Susan and Jerry Eveland of Reno, Neva and Bill Miller of Sparks, Jeanette and Mike Hirose of Reno and daughter Georgene Chase of Las Vegas; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Sunrise Cremation & Burial Society of Henderson is in charge of arrangements.
