120 YEARS AGO

There has been some comment in town that Hank Monk is being neglected by his friends during his sickness. Such is not the case, for Dr. J.M. Benton is having all done that is possible to render Hank comfortable.

100 YEARS AGO

From the Standard: The sheep bill has passed both Legislative houses. It is modeled after an Idaho law, which prohibits the herding or grazing of sheep on the lands within two miles of the house of the owner or any possessory claim. Here, it is one mile. The limit is to protect against roving sheepherders.

70 YEARS AGO

A legal holiday period of three days, making it possible for all banks to suspend operations until next Monday, was proclaimed by Gov. Balzar shortly before midnight. It is to give time to enact emergency legislation, in view of the financial crisis in neighboring states.

50 YEARS AGO

Retired stone mason Joe C. Boitano was named as a city trustee to fill the position of Gene Mills, who resigned. He was immediately sworn in. Nick Carter was reappointed as chairman of the park commission.

20 YEARS AGO

Residents of Carson City are being asked to conserve water, despite the fact they are surrounded by it. Conservation measures can keep septic tanks in various parts of town from failing. City Health Director Jack Fralinger said the northeast corner of town has been particularly hard hit by the wet winter.

10 YEARS AGO

An important addition to Carson City Library's circulating video collection is the MacArthur Foundation Video of 24 titles, traveling between nine Nevada libraries. The next group, in April, is the acclaimed series "Civilization."
