The date has been set to kick off Gardnerville's 125th birthday celebration, including festivities over several summer weekends in 2004.

Anet Sewell, president of the Gardnerville Business Association, is spearheading the plans. She said the celebration will start April 5, 2004, with subsequent events tentatively scheduled for May 15 and 16, June 5 to 6, and June 19 and 20.

The Gardnerville Town Board, the business association and residents are represented on the Gardnerville Birthday Advisory Committee, which met Wednesday to continue planning.

Sewell said the committee hopes to get area service groups and community organizations involved by sponsoring a special event weekend.

Some ideas include historic re-enactments of Gardnerville events, car shows, motorcycle rallies, concerts and events celebrating the diverse cultures in Carson Valley.

Sewell said no events will be planned during Memorial Day weekend or during Carson Valley Days in June.

If service organizations sponsor an event, Sewell said they could also make money.

"It's a win-win situation," she said.

The next birthday planning public meeting is at 9 a.m. March 12 in the Gardnerville Town Hall, 1407 Highway 395. For information or to participate, call Sewell at her shop, Netti's Creations, 782-2473.
