Mrs. Helgren died March 4, 2003.
She graduated from Stanford University with a nursing degree.
When Carson-Tahoe Hospital opened more than 50 years ago, she organized its volunteer program, which is still in existence. She was on the hospital auxiliary board when it was formed in 1952. She served as local and state president of PEO and helped contribute to college scholarships.

She was an organizer of the Nevada Artists Association and its three-term president. She was a 23-year choir member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was an organizer and long-standing member of the Carson City Garden Club, and a member of the Leisure Hour Club and a local bridge club. In 1982, the Carson City Area Chamber of Commerce named her Woman of the Year.
Among her survivors are her sons, David of Carson City and Richard of Las Vegas; and four grandchildren.
Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
