Evan Fischer, a 2000 Carson High graduate, qualified for the U.S. National Championships this weekend at the American Short Course Championships at the University of Texas.
Fischer, a junior at Tennessee, qualified for the national championships in the 200-yard breaststroke. The national championships will be held this spring in Indianapolis. Fischer placed ninth in a persona best two minutes, 1.31 seconds.
He also placed 11th in the 200 individual medley in 1:51.88 and 17th in the 100 breaststroke in 556.64.
By dropping his time by 1.5 seconds in the 200 breaststroke, Fischer has a good chance to qualify for next year's Olympic trials at this year's national championships.
Tennessee is ranked No. 12 in the nation. Fischer is studying sports management and hopes to become a college athletic director.
