120 YEARS AGO

Cap Avery, of the Hole-in-the-Wall, has an electric cigar lighter, a perfect wonder. The faro dealers say this was the hardest lot of legislators that ever met in Carson. None of them indulged in faro, but they were awful poker players. It is said they took away more money from the city than they left.

100 YEARS AGO

The scalp bounty law has been repealed by the Oregon Legislature. This will be a serious blow to some enterprising people in this state who, of late years, have done a thriving business of disposing of Nevada scalps at a large premium to the more liberal market in Oregon.

70 YEARS AGO

March 17, besides being St. Patrick's Day, was an important anniversary for Charles Ross, Carson's oldest resident. It was his birthday and wedding day. He drove teams out of Hamilton then stages between Carson and Tahoe for many years. Mrs. Ross, 80, was also born in New York, and lost her eyesight five years ago. He settled here in 1871.

50 YEARS AGO

A sword lost from the Marines' birthday party here, a full-dress ceremonial sword, was found buried to the hilt with slight rust damage near the Carson Trading Post by Patty Bernard and Cindy Wilson.

20 YEARS AGO

Rosa Matthews, head of the Fourth of July Committee for the Democratic Central Committee, objected to statements made by Joe DiLonardo about the use of Mills Park for public events on Independence Day. Traditionally, by agreement with Republicans, the Democratic Central Committee had exclusive use.

10 YEARS AGO

Sheriff Paul McGrath announced the graduation of sheriff's deputy Sandra Williams from the Nevada Law Enforcement Academy.
