Jessie Ayres hit 3-for-4, including a two-run double in the first inning that helped put the Dayton High School softball team on track to a 12-5 non-league victory at home against South Tahoe on Tuesday afternoon.
The Dust Devils (7-1) scored four runs in the first inning and then put the game away with five runs in the fifth against South Tahoe (0-4).
That was ample support for Keeli Garcia and Lauren Brown, who combined to pitch three-hit ball for Dayton. Garcia threw 4.1 innings. allowed four runs on two hits, struck out two and walked five. Brown allowed one hit, two walks and struck out one over the final 2.2 innings.
Rachel Hurt hit 2-for-5 with a double, three runs scored and two RBIs, Lacy Taylor 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Kaitlin McKinnon 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Vienna Cabrita was 1-for-2 with one RBI. Hurt drove one run home with her double in the fifth inning and then scored on Taylor's base hit.
Dayton visits Carson on Thursday and then hosts North Valleys on Saturday.
