A funeral for James John Olds, 99, a Gardnerville resident for the past 13 years, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Church in Gardnerville.
Mr. Olds died March 19, 2003, at his home. He was born April 6, 1903, in Bishop, Calif., to Charles Luther and Maria E. Evans Olds.
He graduated from grammar school and high school in Bishop.
He married Blanche Irene Hardy on Oct. 24, 1928, in Reno.
Before moving to Gardnerville, he lived in Coleville, Olancha and Independence, Calif.
Mr. Olds worked for the California Division of Highways for 41 years, retiring on July 30, 1966. He worked on the Sonora Pass road and the Walker River Canyon road. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters; and his wife, Blanche, in 1981.
Among his survivors are his daughters Alice Smalley of Independence, Calif., Lillis Hunter of Gardnerville, Norma Rutherfurd of Carson City and Mary Gunn of Pleasant Hills, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Bishop.
