A service for Lynn McGuire, 79, a Carson City resident, will be at 2 p.m. today at the Veterans Cemetery in Fernley.
Mr. McGuire died March 23, 2003, in Carson City. He was born March 6, 1924, in Mountain Home, Ark., to Harvey L. and Ethel H. Baker McGuire.
Mr. McGuire was a funeral director for 10 years in Mountain Home. He was active in the Disabled American Veterans in Carson City. He was a military historian who wrote a book about his Army service in World War II with the 70th Infantry Division titled "Men, and a Time Remembered,"
He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for his service in the European Theater. He also served in the Army during the Korean War.
Among his survivors are his wife, Willene of Carson City; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Char of Manteca, Calif.; daughter and son-in-law, Lynette and Col. Lou Cabrera of Carson City; brothers Jay of California and Dean of Arkansas; sister, Phyllis Wagner of Illinois; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Cremation will be at FitzHenry's Crematory.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
FitzHenry's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
