When more than 11,000 horsepower -- of super late model racecars -- roar to life at Champion Motor Speedway, one very trick pony will be more than ready to pace the pack.
A sleek 2002 Ford Mustang Coupe to use for pace car and promotional duties at CMS for the 2003 season has been provided by Dick Campagni's Automotive Group.
Campagni's Automotive Group includes Capital Ford, Carson City Toyota and Carson City Mazda-Hyundai.
"We're excited about Campagni's Automotive Group coming on board this year," said Jeb Onweiler, Champion Motor Speedway general manager.
"They have stepped up and provided us with a Ford Mustang Coupe, which just might be the best looking pace car I've had the privilege of being a part of. I owe a big thanks to Dana Whaley and Ackie Brazil at Campagni's Automotive Group for helping me put the deal together."
Several other area businesses have also stepped up with additional support.
Kirk Buck at Les Schwab Tire Center installed a shiny set of custom chrome wheels and high-performance tires, along with an Eibach performance suspension system.
Mike and Hannah McIntosh, owners of Vital Signs (home of Deuce Nine Designs) dressed up the ride with sponsor decals and aggressive graphics. Tom and Janet Scott at In & Out Car Wash have offered to make sure the Ford Mustang Coupe is always clean and looking sharp.
"It's a full-time promotional and pace car," Onweiler said. "It will be in the mall shows at Carson Mall and of course every Saturday night action at Champion Motor Speedway."
The end result is delivery of one trick pony that will proudly pace the racing action all season long.
