Man critical after crosswalk accident

A Carson City man was seriously injured Thursday morning when he was hit by a car.

Ralph Keetch, 74, was struck as he crossed East Seventh Street at Stewart Street.

Blanca Vasquez-Mendoza, 28, was stopped at a stop sign and had begun to turn onto Seventh Street when Keetch stepped out in front of her, said Lt. Bev Moltz of the Carson City Sheriff's Department.

"The pedestrian failed to yield to the vehicle," she said.

Keetch was taken by Care Flight to Washoe Medical Center after being transported to Carson-Tahoe Hospital from the accident scene.

According to Judy Davis of Washoe Medical Center, Keetch is in critical condition.
