The Dayton softball team needed a gem from Nicole Greer to win the first game, then rolled in the second for a doubleheader sweep on Friday at Truckee.
Greer pitched a complete game shuout for the Dust Devils (12-2-1, 5-1 in the Northern 3A) in a 1-0 win in the opener. Keeli Garcia followed with a strong effort on the mound as Dayton routed Truckee 11-1 in the nightcap.
Greer struck out 10 and walked two while allowing three hits. Greer preserved the win when she got out of a bases loaded, one out jam in the bottom of the seventh inning. Greer got a strikeout and a groundout for the win.
Dayton's only run came in the fourth when Rachel Hurt singled, went to second on a passed ball and stole third. She scored on Lacy Taylor's groundout.
Hurt went 2-for-3, Jessie Ayres doubled and Natalie Malekos went 1-for-2 for the Dust Devils.
Garcia pitched a four-hitter of six innings in the nightcap. She was also 2-for-5 with a run scored, Malekos went 3-for-4 with two runs, Hurt doubled, had an RBI and scored three runs, Taylor went 2-for-4 with a run, Ayres was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run, Kaitlin McKinnon was 2-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and a run and Vienna Cabrita tripled, had an RBI and scored a run for Dayton.
