Bridgette Galles won four individual events to lead the Dayton High School girls to victory and the Fernley boys used depth to win during the Lyon County Championships track and field meet held on Wednesday in Yerington.
Seven different individuals won events to help Fernley win the boys division by a 134-91 margin over Yerington.
Galles was the meet's only quadruple winner with first-place performances in the high jump (5-0), triple jump (31-3-/12), 100-meter hurdles (18.14) and 300 low hurdles (51.72) as Dayton's girls outdistanced Smith Valley 98-73 for the girls title.
On the boys side, Fernley was aided by individual victories from Josh Whitman won the 3,200 (11:01.28), Pete Borda in the 110 high hurdles (18.04), Robert Albarran in the 300 intermediate hurdles (44.62) and Travis Bennett in the shot put (43-6). Vaquero teammate Shaun Lee, Mike Lambeth and Harris Easton all cleared 5-6 to tie for first-place in the high jump (5-6).
Randy Shumate was a triple winner for Yerington as he earned gold in the 100 meters (11.42), long jump (21-3-1/2) and triple jump (42-8-1/2).
The featured event of the day was the boys pole vault, where four competitors cleared 12 feet. Smith Valley sophomore Jordan Savidge won the event with a 13-6 clearance. Kevin Savidge and Borda tied for second at 12-6 and Smith Valley's Sam Marshek was fourth at 12-0.
Jordan Savidge also dashed to first-place in the 200 meters with a time of 23.11, just ahead of Yerington senior Wes Thomas in 23.74. Earlier, Thomas won the 400 in 53.37.
Kevin Savidge placed second behind Shumate in the 100 (11.57) and long jump (21-0-1/2).
Lonnie Hatcher, Josh Beacon, Martin Grafe and Jonathan Hancock also combined to give Fernley a victory in the 4x200 relay (1:38.91).
Sabrian Cantrell was a double winner for Dayton's girls, as she won the 100 (14.14) and 800 (2:38.07). Smith Valley's Katy Luna won the 1,600 (6:04) and 3,200 (15:07) to go with her second-place in the 800 (2:55.79). Brittany Wilkinson was also a double winner for Yerington's girls in the shot put (33-8) and discus (84-11).
