Nicole Greer pitched 12 innings of no-hit ball as the Dayton High softball team clinched the Northern 3A regular season title.
Dayton swept a doubleheader from Yerington on Saturday, winning both games 3-0. Greer pitched a no-hitter in the opener and threw five innings of no-hit ball in the nightcap.
The Dust Devils (26-4-1, 12-2 in the Northern 3A) took advantage if its chance to move into first place league after Spring Creek swept a doubleheader from Lowry on Friday. Dayton will host a best two-of-three series in the regional playoffs on Friday and Saturday against No. 4 seed Spring Creek.
The opener will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday. A doubleheader if necessary will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday. The winner will advance to the NIAA-3A State Championships.
Greer faced one batter over the minimum in the opener against Yerington, walking the second batter she faced. She struck out seven.
Rachel Hurt and Natalie Malekos went 1-for-3, Lacy Taylor was 2-for-3, Greer and Keeli Garci each went 1-for-3 with an RBI and run, Nicole Curtis went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run and Melony Cox scored a run for the Dust Devils.
Garcia started the nightcap, pitching two scoreless innings. Greer struck out five and walked none over the final five innings. Garcia was 1-for-2 with a run, Hurt and Taylor each had a hit and an RBI and Vienna Cabrita, Greer and Curtis all added a hit for Dayton.
