Several local players honored for Dana baseball

The Dana College baseball team began play on Wednesday in the NAIA Regional Tournament in Hutchinson, Kan.

The tournament will run through Saturday. Dan finished the regular season with a 30-21 record and won the regular season Great Plains Athletic Conference crown with a 21-5 record.

Several local players helped lead Dana this season. Douglas High graduate Kenny Nicoll was named to the all-conference first team as a utility player.

Nicoll is a shortstop and a pitcher for Dana. He batted .354 with four home runs, 34 RBI, 13 doubles, two triples and had a 4-1 record with an 0.87 earned run average.

Douglas High graduate Chad Cooke was an all-conference honorable mention choice at second base. Cooke batted .289 with one home run, 18 RBI and seven doubles. Cooke also broke the conference record by being hit with a pitch 24 times.

Also for Dana, Carson High graduate Craig Martin batted .302 with five home runs, 26 RBI and seven doubles. Douglas High graduate Tommy Bond batted .269 with two home runs, 17 RBI and four doubles. Yerington's Nate Landa posted a 3-4 record for Dana.

All of the local players came from Feather River Community College. Mark Listenberger, another Feather River product from Lake Oswego, Ore., was named as the conference player of the year. Coach Damon Day was also named as the conference coach of the year.

Bond, Cooke, Listenberger and Nicoll will all return to Dana next year while Landa and Martin are seniors.

TIME CHANGE FOR FEATHER RIVER GAME

The game time for Feather River's game in the Northern California Regional with Diablo Valley has been changed to 3 p.m. Friday. Feather River is hosting the four-team regional, which also includes Santa Rosa and Chabot.
