Henry, Bateman, Kinsinger are honored

Carson High's Ryan Henry, Douglas High's Drew Bateman and Galena's Matt Kinsinger are among Northern Nevada's Top Ten Student-Athletes of the Year as honored by the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association.


Senior athletes are chosen based on their athletic and scholastic achievements as well as their involvement in school and student government projects and community service.


Henry was a member of this past season's Senator boys basketball team that advanced to the state tournament. Henry was also an all-Sierra League second team choice for Carson.


In baseball, Henry was a three-year member of the varsity team and helped lead the Senators to the state tournament. Henry pitched two scoreless innings this week to pick up the win in a key 8-6 victory over Galena in the Northern 4A playoffs.


Kinsinger won the Northern 4A title in golf and lead Galena to the team title in the zone tournament this past week. Drew Bateman was a standout for Douglas in football and track.


Others to be honored were: Tristin Adams, Churchill County;


Ashley Bristol, Lowry; Diane Johnson, North Valleys; Corey Lott, Spanish Springs; Brianne McGowan, Wooster; Brian Vaden, Reed.


The athletes will be honored during a banquet in Reno on May 21. All of the winners receive a $500 savings bond.
