Gov. Kenny Guinn sent 90th birthday wishes to Janet Mitchell in the form of a proclamation. Mayor Ray Masayko showed up and gave Mitchell a warm hug.
Mitchell celebrated her birthday May 3 at Comma Coffee with 50 of her friends.
Mitchell has lived in Carson City for 55 years and said this was one of her best birthday parties, according to her daughter Susan Maki.
Comma Coffee was decorated with 90 pink balloons and pink rose arrangements. A light buffet and cake from Sweet Sensations were served.
Among her family at the celebration, were her grandchildren Kerri and Jason and her little 2-year-old great-granddaughter Joie.
"Besides this enchanting day, the birth of my great granddaughter Joie on my birthday, May 2, 2001," Mitchell said when asked about her most memorable birthday.
"She is fantastically healthy, both physically and mentally," Maki said. "She is amazing. She shops at Scolari's and Safeway. I take her, but she is still pushing that basket."
