Obituary: Jewell K. Andrus

Jewell K. Andrus, 100, former Carson City resident, died April 17, 2003, in Spring Creek. She was born Dec. 15, 1902, in Lawrence County, Mo., to Robert Walker and Dora Mason Williams.

She worked in a garment factory, as a farm cook, helped to run a dairy and was a dietitian in several hospitals.

Mrs. Andrus was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters, most of whom she helped to raise when their mother died at an early age.

Among her survivors are her husband, Ernie; son and daughter-in-law, Charles R. and Marylou Hicklin of Eureka Springs, Ariz.; daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Rick Ross of Elko; sister, Opal DeBuse of Anaheim, Calif.; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.

At her request, no service will be held.

Memorial contributions may be made to Horizon Hospice of Elko.

Burns Funeral Home of Elko is in charge of arrangements.
