BISHOP CREEK AREA, CALIF: Gary Olson of the Bishop Creek Resorts ((760-873-4484) sent in this report:


Intake No. 2: Fishing has been good. Many fishermen did well with Trout Teasers or Blue Fox lures. Bait fishing was best with worms or Power Bait.


North Lake: There is still a hike to North Lake. The ice is about 60 percent off and the fishing is good. Nightcrawlers or Power Bait.


Sabrina Lake: No report.


South Lake: Still iced over.


With the cold temps, the ice is staying firm and even getting thicker by the back of the lake.


There were only a few brave souls that went out on the lake and they did OK but the weather made their stays short.


Bishop Creek: We got an Alpers stocking this week and the fishing was great.


DFG also stocked so there was no shortage of fish.


There were not a lot of anglers. Those that were here did well fishing and loved the solitude of being almost alone.


The Paulson Family of Riverside, Calif. did very well. Dad caught a 4-pound, 4-ounce rainbow using a Power Tube lure and mom caught a 3-pound, 10-ounce rainbow using a jig.




BLUE LAKES, CALIF. AREA: No report. Road still closed for the winter.

BOULDER RESERVOIR IN NORTHERN WASHOE COUNTY: No report.




BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR, CALIF: According to Mary Booher at the Bridgeport Marina (760-932-7001), "Fishing was much like the weather this week. alternating between hot and cold. Those who braved the conditions hit 20-minute pockets when they caught six or seven fish. The top fish were a 3.85 pound German brown trout on a black/gold Rapala lure, a 3.7 pound brown on a Needlefish lure and a 3.6 pound brown on a Rapala lure."

CARSON RIVERS, CALIF:


West Carson River: Dave Kirby of the Woodfords Station (530-694-2930) checked in and said there was good action with a number of limits on salmon eggs or nightcrawlers. A lot of happy people on Mother's Day. The top trout was a 3 pound rainbow. The water is starting to get high and murky from the warm weather.


East Carson River: Don and Elaine Quilici of Carson City hiked into the Carson-Iceberg Wilderness Area on Sunday. They reported the river is low and clear. They caught and released a number of mountain whitefish.




CARSON RIVERS, NEV: No report.




CATNIP RESERVOIR IN NORTHERN WASHOE COUNTY: Closed.




CONVICT LAKE AREA, CALIF:


Convict Lake: Dave DeSurra of the Convict Lake Resort (800-992-2260) reported the top trout of the week were a 6-pound Alpers Trophy Rainbow trout on a yellow Roostertail lure at the inlet, a 5.5 pound Alpers on an orange Woolly Bugger fly at the south shore and a 5.45 Alpers on a nightcrawler from the south shore.

CRATER LAKE, CALIF. (Near Kit Carson Pass): No report.




CROWLEY LAKE, CALIF: Susie Greilich of Kittredge Sports in Mammoth Lakes (760-934-7566) reported: Troll Needlefish or Rapala lures 20-30 deep. Stillfish 2-3 feet off the bottom with inflated nightcrawlers or Power Bait.




DAVIS CREEK POND AT DAVIS CREEK PARK IN WASHOE VALLEY: No report.

FRENCHMAN RESERVOIR, CALIF: Wiggin's Trading Post at Chilcoot (530-993-4683) reported fishing conditions are improving.


Bank fishing has been good with nightcrawlers and Power Bait. Limits were taken by several fishermen near the old boat ramp. Trollers are doing well with flashers and nightcrawlers.


Fish early before it gets too windy.

INDIAN CREEK RESERVOIR. CALIF: Dave Kirby of the Woodfords Station said there were two very nice fish caught over the weekend:


On Saturday, fly fisherman Ken Tashiro of Orosi, Calif. was in a float tube and caught a 8.75 pound German brown on a Nymph.


On Sunday, Bill Shelton of Martinez, Calif. caught a 8.5 pound rainbow on 4-pound test line with green Power Bait.


Summit Lake (above Indian Creek Reservoir): No report.




JUNE LAKE LOOP AREA, CALIF: Susie Greilich of Kittredge Sports reported:


Grant Lake: Troll Rapala lures.


Gull Lake: No report.


June Lake: A lot of 2-3 pounders.


Turbo Dough, Triple Teaser, or black/gold Rapala lures.


Troll deep as well as use red dot/frog Thomas Buoyant lures.


Silver Lake: Shore fish with nightcrawlers.

KIRMAN (CARMEN) LAKE: Jim Reid of Ken's Sporting Goods Store in Bridgeport (760-932-7707) reported the hike-in lake has been doing excellent for float tubers, both fly and lure fishermen. Most fishermen are catch and release fishing. Fly fishing has been best for Cutthroat trout (18-20 inches) and Eastern brook trout in the 15-17 inch class.

PYRAMID LAKE, NEV: Don Hamby of the Gilly Sporting Goods Store in Sparks (358-6113) said that the fishing is about the same. The nice days are the slowest and the bad days are better. Fishing has been pretty good, especially for fly fishermen who are "Nymphing." Best fly fishing continues to be at the south end of "The Nets" and south of there. A few decent Cutts are being caught.

LAKE TAHOE -- North Shore:


Mickey Daniels of Mickey's Big Mack Charters (800-877-1462) said: "The fishing is still good for average-sized Mackinaw trout, early in the morning, when we can get out between storms.


Saturday, my anglers kept six and tagged six.


Sunday was Mother's day and I took it off.


Some of the larger Macks are going up to 7-8 pounds. I've been tagging and releasing the smaller ones.


We've been trolling 250-550 feet deep in the area in front of Carnelian Bay and King's Beach.


We are using silver, Herring Dodger flasher blades with live minnows or large Apex lures."




LAKE TAHOE -- North Shore:


Gene St. Denis of Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552) said, "When I can get out, I'm busy and the Mackinaw fishing remains good at Dollar Point and Cal-Neva Point.


We've been trolling 200-280 feet deep with large, silver, Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows.


The Macks are running 3-5 pounds, with the bigger ones up to about 8 pounds.




LAKE TAHOE -- South Shore: No report.




LAKE TAHOE -- East Shore:


Gene St. Denis said: "We're still trolling 180-260 feet deep with silver, Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows on the Cave Rock Shelf, when the weather lets us.


Jiggers have also been successful with white, Crippled Herring jigs, tipped with a live minnow."




TOPAZ LAKE: Chuck Fields of the Topaz Lake Marina (775-266-3550) reported, "The weather has been great. They are catching lots of limits, stillfishing from boats at the south end of the lake, with nighcrawlers or Power Bait. The fish have moved close to shore and the best trolling is no more than 100 feet from the shoreline."

Upper Twin Lake: Annett's Mono Village ((760) 932-7468) reported Spring has arrived! Stringers coming in on red/gold or red Thomas Buoyant lures. A 4-pound, 12-ounce brown while trolling a silver Rapala lure. Nightcrawlers working well from shore. Also using yellow or Chartreuse Power Bait.


Robinson Creek: No report.




VIRGINIA LAKES, CALIF. AREA: Jim Reid of Ken's Sporting Goods Store reported that the Virginia Lakes are still iced over with lots of ice. Fishermen are doing good.




VIRGINIA LAKE IN RENO: No report.

East Walker (Calif.): Jim Reid of Ken's Sporting Goods Store reported fishing has picked up, it's not red hot but good. Some real "hogs" in the 3-4 pound class. When you catch a fish, it is at least 18 inches long.


West Walker (Calif.): Reid reported that it is still slow due to the cold water. Picking up some fish, up to about 1 pound.


East Walker (Nev.): No report.


West Walker (Nev.): No report.


Little Walker (Calif.): Best fishing is in the Willow Flat area with worms or salmon eggs for small rainbows or brookies.




WASHOE LAKE, NEV: No report.




WEBER RESERVOIR, NEV: No report.




WILDHORSE RESERVOIR NEV: Dennis Dunn of the Wild Horse Resort (775-758-6472) reported: "I just fired my cook, so I'm in a cantankerous mood (Tuesday). I've got another cook coming in, today, from Mt. Home, Idaho. The weather is beautiful, the fishing is great (both shore and trolling) and you need to come up here and get in on the Spring fishing. The perch should start hitting with the warm weather and Fish and Game expects a 30-pound Channel Catfish to be caught this year. the reservoir is currently at 1,890 acre feet."

According to David Catalino of the Nevada Division of Wildlife (NDOW) Mason Valley Fish Hatchery, here are some recent fish plants in this general area of Western Nevada:


Truckee River in Washoe County: 1,300 Lahontan cutthroat trout, 17 inches in length.


Truckee River in Washoe County: 2,720 German brown trout, 10 inches.


East Walker River in Lyon County: 1,715 rainbow trout, 10 inches.


Davis Creek Pond in Washoe Valley: 600 rainbows, 10.5 inches.


Wilson Common Pond in Washoe Valley: 624 rainbows, 10.5 inches.


Mt. View Park Pond in Yerington: 599 rainbows, 10.5 inches.


Truckee River in Washoe County: 4,387 rainbows, 10 inches.


Truckee Canal in Lyon County: 1,317 rainbows, 10 inches.


Note: Truckee River fish were planted all through Verdi, downtown Reno and the eastern portion of the river to the Eagle Pitcher Bridge.


The eastern portion of the Truckee River was stocked with the brown trout.
