The John Riordan Annual Invitational Fishing Derby was held on April 28-29.
It was headquartered at the Topaz Marina and Topaz Lodge at Topaz Lake.
There were about 125 contestants who could fish in any of the open waters of the Carson River and Walker River Systems, both in Nevada and California.
The 2003 winners were:
Cutthroat Trout:
1. Bob "Slick" McCulloch: 2-pounds, 3 1/4 ounces.
Note: This was the largest fish in the derby and won an additional prize.
2. Norm Budden: 1 pound, 9 1/2 ounces.
3. Bob "Slick" McCulloch: 1 pound, 3 1/2 ounces.
German Brown Trout:
1. Steve Ustal: 8 ounces. (the only entry).
Any Other Trout:
1. Mike Madison: 1 pound, 9 3/4 ounces.
2. Donna Harrison: 1 pound, 9 ounces.
3. Mike Frank: 1 pound, 8 1/2 ounces.
Catfish:
1. Joe Tamburino: 11 ounces.
2. John Riordan: 10 ounces.
Note: This was Riordan's first win in all of the many years of his derbies.
3. Doug Collins: 8 1/8 ounces.
Bass:
No entries.
