120 YEARS AGO

Miss Annie H. Martin of this place is a niece of Hon. Proctor Knott, Democratic nominee for governor of Kentucky. Sam Wagner, the pioneer bootblack, who became very ill here, has been taken to Virginia City among his old friends, who will see that the old man wants for nothing. Sam is past 80 years old.

100 YEARS AGO

The proposed electric road up the valley was discussed. On Monday. Dick Kirman spent the day in this city. Kirman is one of the promoters of the proposed railroad up Carson Valley. He said, "Of course I am interested in this proposed road, but just when it will be built is hard to say. It will require a great deal of money."

70 YEARS AGO

Seventy-one pupils of the Carson City schools, 35 in the elementary school and 36 in high school, are to receive certificates. The eighth grade is one of the largest to finish in a number of years. The high school, with 36 grads, is the largest in school history. Tasker L. Oddie, former governor of Nevada and now a U.S. senator, will deliver the address.

50 YEARS AGO

Carson City's new parking code goes in effect, with City Ordinance 247 adopted recently. It has one-hour parking on Carson Street and two hours on principal side streets. Graveside services set for Mrs. Evelyn Marie Clerico, longtime Gold Hill resident, at Lone Mountain Cemetery.

20 YEARS AGO

Owens Piano Center's Walt Owens, veteran of tuning pianos for 12 years on the Las Vegas Strip, opened his Carson City store here, assisted by wife, Frances. They have one son, Roger, piano technician for Steinway.

10 YEARS AGO

Rachel Townsley, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Gregg E. Townsley, has been selected to perform with a national performing organization known as the Sound of America Honor Band and Chorus. She was first flute at Carson High School for two years.
