An inmate who committed suicide at Northern Nevada Correctional Center was identified Thursday.

Juan Ruiz-Alvarado was found hanging in his cell at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center on Snyder Avenue around 3:30 p.m. Monday, according Nevada Department of Corrections Assistant Director Glen Whorton.

Attempts by medical personnel to revive Ruiz-Alvarado were unsuccessful, he said. Ruiz-Alvarado was pronounced dead at 4:05 p.m. in the Regional Medical Center at the prison.

Whorton said although there is no indication of foul play and the inmate left a suicide note, the "scene is being preserved and treated as a crime scene."

Ruiz-Alvardo arrived at the center on April 2 after being sentenced to 10 years in prison out of Washoe County for lewdness with a minor.
