Gov. Kenny Guinn has signed a bill restricting prescription drugs from foreign countries from being sold over the Internet to Nevadans.

SB337 says a prescription can't be filled if the drug has not been lawfully imported into the United States. Anyone who violates the law faces a prison term of three to 15 years and a fine of $100,000.

Another bill signed Thursday by the governor calls for state agencies purchasing prescription drugs and medical supplies to go through the state Purchasing Division, in an effort to get the best prices.

SB277, however, permits an individual division or department to buy drugs, pharmaceutical services or medical supplies if it can "match or exceed" the best value found by the purchasing division.
