Cecil L. Townsend, 85, a Carson City resident for the past 32 years, died Nov. 4, 2003, at Mountain View Care Center.

He was born April 26, 1918, in Durant, Okla., to Joseph and Evelena Tolover Townsend.

He married Alene Wise on Sept. 7, 1940, in Colbert, Okla.

Before moving to Carson City, he lived at South Lake Tahoe.

Mr. Townsend worked in construction. He was a Baptist and past member of the Baptist church in Yuba, Okla.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his son Thomas J. on March 13, 1983, brothers Edward, Leroy and Melvin and sister Lavada Jones.

Among his survivors are his wife of Carson City; son Larry of Medford, Ore.; sister Glenouse Gannon of Bonham, Texas; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

Private inurnment will be at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley.

Capitol City Cremation & Burial Society is in charge of arrangements.
