Clerk: No sign of missing mom at Fallon inn

Two hours after the son of a missing Carson City woman was found Nov. 10, bloody and abandoned in a Dayton parking lot, the man police suspect left him there pulled into a Fallon motel alone, an inn employee said Monday.

Juan Carlos Tellez is wanted for questioning by the Carson City police in the disappearance of Bertha Anguiano, 33.

Anguiano was last seen talking with a man in the parking lot of Empire Elementary School about 8 a.m.

At 9:30 a.m., her 3-year-old son Andrew was found clutching a dollar in the parking lot of Smith's grocery store in Dayton, about 15 miles from his Woodside Drive home.

The boy, his clothing bloodied, told police his mother was dead.

Tellez, known as Oscar Melendez to the Ox Bow Motor Inn in Fallon 50 miles east of Dayton, had been staying in Room 227 since Friday, said the employee, who asked to not be identified.

The room had been rented by a man named "Roberto Sanchez," but it was Tellez who came every morning to pay the $43 per-day rental fee in cash, the employee said.

After managers discovered Tellez had climbed into his room through a window, bending the screen and blinds, a clerk went early in the morning to ask him to leave, but he wasn't there.

"I wanted him out because of the damage to the screen, and I didn't like the look of the room. It was a mess. It was terrible. I was very unhappy about the window," the clerk said.

He said he witnessed Tellez drive a blue GMC Jimmy truck into the motel lot about 11:30 a.m. alone

When he tried to pay for another day in the room, the clerk told him he had to go.

"He didn't give me no argument or anything," the clerk said.

There was no one with Tellez, he said.

A maid at the motel recognized him as the man police wanted to talk with and reported it to authorities Saturday.

Anguiano is suspected of having an affair with Tellez.

Her gold Ford Tempo was found parked at the elementary school. She never opened her video store La Casita Video that morning, nor did she deposit $3,700 in video store receipts in the bank, said her husband Filiberto.

Search and Rescue volunteers found no evidence of the mother of three last week when they scoured the desert between Carson City and Silver Springs.

Sheriff Ken Furlong said park rangers at Lahontan State Park spent Monday cruising the beaches looking for signs of Anguiano and Carson City detectives spent the day in Fallon conducting interviews.

Investigators collected fingerprints, hairs and fibers from the Fallon hotel room for forensic testing, Furlong said.

Analysis of the blood found on Andrew's clothing is expected back Thursday.

Furlong admits his department is baffled by Anguiano's disappearance. They believe she went willingly with Tellez, but may be in danger.

"Somebody is going to see (Tellez) along the line somewhere," he said. "When they do they need to call the police."

Tellez is suspected of driving a blue GMC Jimmy with license plates 511 PTF. He is described as 5 feet, 9 inches tall, weighing 160 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He has a tattoo on his back left shoulder which reads," Cry now smile later," a peacock on his right shoulder and a three-leaf clover and heart on his chest.

Anguiano is described as 5 feet tall, weighing 110 pounds, with dark brown hair and brown eyes.
