Leads grow cold in missing-mom case

Investigators spent Tuesday looking into some of the estimated 65 tips that have come into the sheriff's department in the case of a Carson City mother missing for 10 days.

"We've asked the Nevada Division of Investigations to assist us with follow-up investigations out of our area," said Undersheriff Steve Albertsen. "A lot of these tips come up with nothing, but we have to exhaust those leads."

Bertha Anguiano, 33, has been missing since Nov. 10. She was last seen talking to a man in the parking lot Empire Elementary School in East Carson after dropping off her 6-year-old son.

Some 90 minutes later, her 3-year-old son Andrew was found with a head injury at a grocery store in Dayton, 12 miles from the family's Woodside Drive home. He told police a man named "Juan" hit him in the head and that his mother was dead.

The married mother failed to open her video store, La Casita Video, and never made a $3,700 deposit from the store's receipts.

Investigators believe Anguiano is in the company of a man they suspect she was having an affair with.

Police hope to question Juan Carlos Tellez, 36, the man named by neighbors and friends as Anguiano's alleged lover.

Tellez was last seen alone at a Fallon motel two hours after Andrew was found in Dayton.

Tellez is believed to be driving a blue GMC Jimmy with license plates 511 PTF. He is described as 5 feet, 9 inches tall, weighing 160 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He has a tattoo on his back left shoulder which reads, "Cry now smile later," a peacock on his right shoulder and a three-leaf clover and heart on his chest.

Anguiano is described as 5 feet tall, weighing 110 pounds, with dark brown hair and brown eyes.
