Guinn declares Guard and Reserve Week

Gov. Kenny Guinn has declared this week Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Week.

He said the proclamation pays tribute to the state's residents serving in the National Guard and the reserves as well as their civilian employers. The honor is designed to express thanks to those personnel and their employers "for their extraordinary sacrifices in the defense of the nation, especially since Sept. 11, 2001."

Guinn said more than 20 percent of Nevada's National Guard was on active duty at the height of the war on terrorism and the war in Iraq. More than 400 remain on active duty.
