Investigators to begin examining truck today

Investigators today will begin examining a truck they believe may hold clues into the disappearance of a missing Carson City mother.

District Judge Bill Maddox on Monday signed a search warrant requested by investigators for a blue 1992 GMC Jimmy found when Juan Carlos Tellez was arrested Friday in Salt Lake City in connection with the disappearance of Bertha Anguiano.

It's been two weeks since Anguiano, 33, a married mother of three boys, disappeared after dropping off her 6-year-old son at school Nov. 10.

She was last seen in the parking lot of Empire Elementary School talking with a man around 8 a.m.

About 90 minutes later, Anguiano's 3-year-old son, Andrew, was found with a head wound and bleeding in a parking lot behind Smith's grocery store in Dayton, some 15 miles from his Carson City home.

Andrew told police he was in a blue truck and a man named "Juan" killed his mother, according to Sheriff Ken ny Furlong.

Investigators believe Anguiano was having an affair with Tellez, 36.

On Friday, Carson City investigators were watching the Jimmy truck in a parking lot in Salt Lake City when Tellez attempted to leave the lot in another vehicle. He was arrested after he pointed a loaded Glock pistol at officers who stopped him for questioning, Furlong said.

Tellez is being held without bail in the Salt Lake County Jail on one count of aggravated assault. Furlong said Tellez denied knowing anything about Anguiano's disappearance.

Detectives continue to interview witnesses, but said they are no closer to finding Anguiano than they were the day she disappeared, the sheriff said. He said he hopes the truck will hold the key.

"She's been missing now for two weeks. For the last two weeks , investigators have worked day and night on this case and we still have no active leads that would tell us where she is."

Undersheriff Steve Albertsen said investigators asked that information supporting the search warrant be sealed to protect the "integrity" of the investigation.

"Due to the ongoing investigation, we don't want any evidence we've obtained released to the public at this point," Albertsen said. Judge Maddox granted the request to seal the information.
