After his first rodeo, Douglas High graduate Austin Beemer is already a champion on the college level.
Beemer, competing in his first rodeo as a freshman for Cochise Community College in Arizona, won the bullriding title at a National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association event held this past weekend in Douglas, Ariz.
During the first performance, Beemer was one of only four riders to successfully ride his bull, scoring 75 points to put him in second behind teammate, Martin Carlo, who scored a 76. In the championship round, Beemer drew the best bull in the pen, the PRCA/PBR bull, Whippersnapper, and rode him to a score of 84 for the title. Beemer won the title with a total score of 159.
The performance put Beemer first in the Grand Canyon region and his effort also helped Cochise to the team title. Beemer said his goal this year is to make the College National Finals Rodeo.
