Carson Midgets youth football team wins

The Carson Midgets youth football team scored 40 unanswered points on their way to a 40-7 win over Quincy last week to improve to 4-0.

After Quincy took a 7-0 lead, Hunter Santillo scored on a 50-yard run and Kelly Manning punched it in for the extra point to tie the score 7-7. Carson's defense went on to hold Quincy to just over 100 total yards, including eight total yards in the second half.

Linebackers Daniel Cunningham and David Garnett helped lead the effort. Cunningham had two sacks, five unassisted tackles, a fumble recovery, interception and numerous assists.

Daniel Feagan also had a huge game with four sacks. Cody McDaniel, Matt McDaniel, Matt Barnes, Tyler Brown, Garrett Truesdell, Kyle Price, Nick Weir, Kyle Zemp, Owen Craugh, Tyler Devall and Phillip Maier all played well defensively as well.

Carson's offense racked up more than 375 yards rushing in just over two quarters behind the offensive linemen Tyson Curran, Isaac Holt, Jeff Butler, Eric McDaniel, Nick Cuttinili, Feagan and Stephen Sawyers.

Quarterback Chris McBroom scored on two touchdown runs, one from 25 yards and another on a 70-yard bootleg. Santillo scored another touchdown on a 45-yard run and finished with more than 120 yards rushing.

Maier rushed for 83 yards, including a 24-yard run that set up his 1-yard scoring run. Maier also scored an extra point. Manning added a 40-yard TD run, rushed for 89 yards and scored two extra points. Brian Halverson also caught a pass from an extra point.

Carson has overcome injuries for its 4-0 start, also beating the Sparks Raiders, Lassen and Fallon. Carson will host the Reno Bulldogs at 8 p.m. today at Governor's Field.
