Even though the Carson High cross country teams effectively used it for training, the Senators were still able to sweep to wins in a tri-meet with Reed and Hug on Wednesday.

Carson's boys tied Reed 33-33, but won when their sixth place finisher, Brad Williams, placed higher than Reed's sixth place finisher. Carson's girls beat Reed 21-40.

The Senators ran in either packs or in pairs and they ran the first two miles easy and the last mile hard, Carson coach Todd Ackerman said. Chad Shory placed second for the boys in 19 minutes, 14 seconds.

Ackerman noted that Shory trailed the leader by 40 seconds after two miles, but was able to close to within five seconds at the end of the race. Adam Houghton took sixth (20:29), Tyler Bourne placed seventh (20:30), Seth Carter took eighth (20:30) and Rusty Turner was 10th (21:16) for the Senators. Williams broke the tie when he placed 13th (21:32) while Reed's sixth place finisher took 16th.

For Carson's girls, Annie Brinson and Janine Stone tied for first when they crossed the finish line together at 22:57. Patty Capistrant took fifth (23:37), Kristen Neddenriep took sixth (24:18), Megan Myer placed seventh (24:23), Amanda Benson was eighth (24:39), Andrea Kiersted placed 10th (27:17) and Sumantha Pitts was 12th (27:31).

The Senators used the meet to prepare for the Carson Invitational, which begins at 3 p.m. Friday at Edmonds Park.

"It's a pretty flat course," Ackerman said. "It's going to be pretty fast. The hill runners aren't going to have an advantage. Overall it should be a pretty good race."
