Carson girls soccer falls to McQueen

Despite a 2-0 loss at McQueen on Tuesday, first-year Carson High girls soccer coach Randy Roser was encouraged with his team's play.

"It was a very close match," Roser said. "It went back and forth. It was a great match, a great starter.

"They're a strong team. They will be one of the stronger teams in the North."

McQueen scored 30 seconds before halftime and added another goal on an unfortunate break against Carson in the second half. With the Senator defense falling back, one of the Carson defenders tried to clear the ball and ended up hitting one of her teammates. The ball bounced right in front of the goal to a McQueen player, who easily put it in.

Roser said the difference of the game was McQueen's goalie. "Their keeper was very good," Roser said. "She saved them on three or four great opportunities.

"She shut us down. Any other keeper I think we would have scored."

Terah Laack, Cassie Bowman and Sarah Stalling had numerous chances, but couldn't cash in.

"We were really focusing on our system of plays," Roser said. "They did it well, they just came up short."

Roser also praised the play of defenders Katie Davis, Sam Valerius, Sarah Briscoe and Kathryn Rogers. "They just kept it tough back there," Roser said.
