A celebration of life for James Henry Concannon Sr. will be at 2 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Capitol City Gun Club in Carson City.
Mr. Concannon died Sept. 7, 2003, at St. Mary's Hospital. He was born April 4, 1935, in New York to Irish immigrants Michael Concannon and Teresa Conway-Concannon.
After graduating from Victor Valley High School in 1952 at age 17, he joined the U.S. Navy. He served for four years as a radar technician during the Korean War on the USS Kearsarge, being honorably discharged March 1956. He then attended Valley College in San Bernardino, Calif., and received technician certificates from Golden Gate University.
He married Carolene Basura Aug. 25, 1956, in Victorville, Calif.
Mr. Concannon worked for Ore Grande Cement and Southern California Edison. In 1959, he started work for Continental Telephone Co. in Victorville and later transferred to Gardnerville, where he lived for 21 years. He retired from Contel in 1990 as an administrator of plant results in Victorville and returned to Nevada.
He was a member of the NVHC, Kiwanis, Amateur Trapshooting Association and the NRA. At the time of his death, he was treasurer of the Capitol City Gun Club.
He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed his garden, fishing trips to Mexico and time spent with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Jack.
Among his survivors are his wife of Carson City; sons and daughters-in-law James Jr. and Evelyn of Yerington and Andrew and Liz of Gardnerville; daughter and son-in-law Carol and Doug Hagberg of Victorville; grandchildren Katie Concannon, Rebecca Concannon and Casey Duryee; brother and sister-in-law Michael and Sandy of Huntington Beach, Calif.; sister and brother-in-law Theresa and John Anthony of Apple Valley, Calif.; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
