Youth football teams fall

The Carson Junior PeeWee Blue Senators dropped their first game of the season to the Sparks Wolf Pack 20-13 in a close and hard fought contest.


The Senators Defense was impressive as it caused two fumbles and Carson also blocked a punt. Defensive linemen Lue Vang, Casey Foster, Jeremy Walkama, Kevin Sperski, Austin Brown, and Javier Torres along with defensive ends Tanner Laird, Gabe Stone, and Pat Craugh placed consistent pressure on the Wolf Pack Offense. Linebackers Austin Pacheco, Shea Bondi, Josh Peacock, and defensive backs Michael Lowes, Willie McDonald, Chris Johnson, Rod Calhoun, and Cody Hammond also played consistent and eventually shut down the passing and running attack of the Wolf Pack.


The Senators special teams was consistant all night. Along with the blocked punt the kickoff return team scored on a great 60-yard run from Dylan Sawyers.


The Senators offense was inconsistent but showed signs of its potential all night. Led by offensive lineman Austin Buyak, Nolan Truesdell, John Borges, Zack Raat, Keegan Aizzi, Nick Garcia, Jim Wildenradt, Shane Ahrens, and Devin Harrill the Senators offense was able to move the ball but only scored one touchdown in the second half after a series of runs from Colton Banta and Dylan Sawyers, who scored on a reverse. Quarterback Ricky McDonald made the extra point. Receivers Sam Hutchinson, Clint Page, Zach White and Cody Metcalf made several key blocks on the scoring drive as well.


The Senators will play at 6 p.m. on Friday at home against Fallon. MITEY MITES


Even though Quarterback Hunter Hand rushed for 297 yards and five touchdowns on 29 carries, the Carson Senators still came out on the short end of a 47-33 score against the Douglas Tigers at Governor's Field.


Douglas took control of the game in the fourth quarter after its defense held on fourth down with the score tied 33-33. The Tigers took the ball and drove for the go-ahead touchdown, then got the ball back on a fumble recovery and added an insurance touchdown.


Hand scored on touch scored on runs of 57, 8, 24, 35 and 60 yards for Carson. Andrew Gutierrez also rushed for 30 yards on one carry, T.J. Tucker had 20 yards on three carries and Gehrig Tucker had 17 yards on two carries. Blocking by tight end Corwin McIntosh and center Matt Primo helped the Senators rush for 364 yards as a team.


Zach Puzey and Kyle Sharp also played well on the defensive side for Carson.
