Douglas boys soccer defeats Galena

The Douglas High boys soccer team served notice that its back among the Northern 4A's top clubs with a 1-0 win over Galena on Wednesday.


Iani Dunbar split two defenders to score the game's only goal with seven minutes left in the first half. Goalie Chase Zumpft had an outstanding game, making 17 saves to post the shutout while Galena took 15 shots on goal.


"It was kind of a back and forth game," Douglas coach Phil Sheridan said. "Both teams played pretty much equal."


Midfielder Colton Mellows also had an outstanding game as did sweeper Justin Dunkelberg, who allowed no breakaways.

Seth Bartlett scored the winning goal from 30 yards out to break a 2-2 tie for the Douglas junior varsity boys soccer team. Michael Gransbery also scored and the Tigers' other score came on a direct kick from 35 yards by Nick Cohee..


Goalie Steve Done had seven saves, sweeper Justin Grimm had an outstanding game and Derick Cantley also played well for Douglas.
