Obituary: Donald William Larkin

A Mass of Christian burial for Donald William Larkin, 67, a Carson City resident for the past 36 years, will be at noon Saturday at St. Teresa's Catholic Church with the Rev. Jerry Hanley celebrant.

A rosary/Scripture service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at St. Teresa's.

Mr. Larkin died Sept. 9, 2003, at home. He was born Oct. 5, 1935, in Lake Charles, La., to Samuel William and Catherine Larkin.

He graduated from high school in Silsbee, Texas, and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. After his discharge in 1958, he worked for the Federal Aviation Agency in Anchorage, Alaska. He moved to New Orleans, where he married Virginia "Ginger," his wife of 41 years.

Mr. Larkin moved to Carson City in 1967, and founded Capital Glass. He retired in 2000 and left his sons in charge of the business.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a former member of the Kiwanis Club. He coached youth basketball and was a coach for more than 20 years of Little League and Babe Ruth baseball teams. He was a member of the Carson City 8-Ball Pool League; his team won the city championship three consecutive years.

He enjoyed travel and hunting with his sons and friends. He was a Catholic.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Howard and Robert.

Among his survivors are his wife; sons and daughter-in-law Scott and Lisa of Minden and Greg and Kelly, Keith and Katie and David and Jamie, all of Carson City; son Daniel of Reno; brothers James of Sun City, Fla., and Carl of Lumberton, Texas; sister, Virginia Mankins of Carson City; grandchildren Kendall, Lindsay, Olivia, Conner, Adam, MacKenzie, Benjamin and Camille; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to either St. Teresa's Catholic Community Building Fund, 3000 N. Lompa Lane, Carson City, NV 89706 or St. Mary's Hospice of Northern Nevada, 3264 Goni Road, Ste. 151, Carson City, NV 89706.

Burial will be at Lone Mountain Cemetery.
