Man arrested in August East Carson stabbing

A Carson City man has been arrested in an August stabbing that left a man critically injured.

Christopher Delaney, 26, of Sutherline, Ore., was arrested early Wednesday morning for allegedly failing to register as an ex-felon.

Late Wednesday night he was also booked on suspicion of felony battery causing substantial bodily harm in the Aug. 21 stabbing of Douglas Campbell, 31.

Campbell suffered a stab wound which required surgery to remove his spleen, according to police.

Police reports indicate Campbell was seen by witnesses talking with people outside an East Carson City casino. Less than an hour later, he stumbled into the Silver Dollar Casino, telling the cashier he'd been stabbed.

Because Campbell was initially evasive about the circumstances, investigators conducted interviews with several witnesses that came up empty, according to reports.

On Aug. 26, Campbell was willing to identify Delaney as the assailant, the report states. Later that day, an informant told police he'd allegedly heard Delaney "bragging openly that he had stabbed this victim" after reading newspaper reports, Detective Steve Johnson wrote.

When Delaney was questioned by Johnson, he allegedly admitted to the offense but claimed it was in self-defense.

Delaney is being held in the Carson City jail on $30,000 bail.
