With five charities on the line, this year's Boot Scootin' Barbecue, is hoping to attract more folks than ever.
Mary Jo Brummer of National Best Sellers, the company sponsoring the event, held 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, said this will be the sixth time the real estate firm has held the fund-raiser.
"We average about 350 people, but we're trying to get more this year," she said.
The barbecue will be at the Governor's Mansion. David John and the Comstock Cowboys are the entertainment.
Benefiting from the barbecue are the Carson-Tahoe Cancer Center, Advocates to End Domestic Violence, Court Appointed Special Advocates, Meals on Wheels, Carson and Dayton Safe Grads and Gardeners Reclaiming Our Waysides.
Brummer said the group has a good start. They have allready sold 19 tables at $400 apiece.
"There will be plenty of cowpoke seating at $35 per person," she said. "We have room for up to 500."
About three dozen Best Sellers agents are involved in the event, which has prizes from a variety of businesses and individuals.
Brummer said the prizes include a week's trip to Park City, Utah, with a condo, golf packages, dinners, a slot machine, a wheelbarrow full of wine, an Emerald Bay cruise for six, a scenic plane ride and jewelry.
