Carson boys soccer beats Wooster

The young Carson boys soccer team will have to overcome its share of adversity for the rest of the season.

After losing two of its key players to injuries, the Senators are down to 15 players. They began to show what they were made of on Wednesday at home in a 3-0 win over Wooster.

"We're coming through some tough things right now," Carson coach Jim Nealis said.

Carson has lost one of its top defenders, Dan Pasqual, who will be out six to eight weeks with a knee injury. The Senators have also lost their top scorer, Ernesto Ayala, for the season with a knee injury.

Seven of Carson's 15 players are sophomores. "They're going to have to grow up in a hurry," Nealis said.

One of Carson's sophomores, Royal Good, played a key role in Wednesday's win. He scored two goals in the first half, one of them coming on a shot from 40 yards.

Nealis said he's also been pleased with the leadership of his two captains, defender Dan Berger and goalie Robbie Liebherr, who made six saves to post the shutout. One of the saves came when he came out to stop a breakaway.

Carson scored in the second half when Edgar Gomez crossed a pass from the left side to set up Loren Wooldridge for a goal.

"There's some things we could have done better offensively and defensively, but it's nothing that we can't solve," Nealis said.

Sam Rojas scored four goals and Ryan Dwyer and Omar Gonzalez each added three goals for the Carson junior varsity boys soccer team (8-0-1). Zach Weisman, Jose Aguilar, Evan Thayer, Kevin Brush and Christian Volker all added one goal.

The other score came on an own goal by Wooster. Volker and Alberto Rios combined in goal to post the shutout.
