Carson golf places seventh

The Carson High girls golf team has placed itself in a position to qualify for the Northern 4A zone tournament.

Carson was able to place seventh in a Northern 4A tournament on Thursday at the difficult ArrowCreek course. The Senators finished with a score of 556.

"They did pretty well," Carson coach Terry Gingell said. "They're not happy with their individual scores."

Carson came into the tournament in ninth in the team standings, one point behind North Valleys. Gingell said he believes his team moved into a tie for eighth with North Valleys in the team standings.

The top eight teams qualify for the zone event. There's one tournament left at Washoe County on Monday. If the Senators finish ahead of North Valleys, they should qualify for the zone event.

Gingell said he likes his team's chances at Washoe County. "I think that course suits us better," he said. "I think they've got a real chance of making it."

Kelsey Green led Carson with a 105 on Thursday and had a chance to break 100, but had a 10 on the final hole. "She played well," Gingell said.

Liz Rankl and Gabby Gallegos each fired a 106. "I know Liz and Gabby feel they could have scored better and probably should have."

Gingell said Rankl and Gallegos should improve their scores at Washoe County.

"I feel that Liz and Gabby will score a lot better on that course than they did on this course," Gingell said. "This course was very demanding."

Samantha Wang shot a 1177 and Grace Ray fired a 122 to round out Carson's scoring. Christie Borges shot a 153.

Gingell said he's pleased with the way his team has progressed. "You can't ask for anything more," he said.
