The arrests of two men could clear up a rash of Carson City car burglaries from the past two months, detectives said Thursday.
Danny Maxfield, 28 and Kyle Fitch, 33, were arrested early Sunday morning after deputies responded to Windtree Circle about 3:10 a.m. on a report of a vehicle burglary. As officers were investigating the report, Fitch and Maxfield happened upon the scene on their bicycles, said Detective Steve Johnson.
When the two were stopped and questioned by deputies, they were found to be in possession of a large amount of change, pocket knives and a garage door opener that tied them to a vehicle burglary, Johnson said.
Fitch allegedly then showed deputies where he had hidden garage door openers for three other residences in the neighborhood.
When investigators went to Fitch's Saliman Road apartment they found numerous items possibly taken during car burglaries.
"We found about 14 backpacks and a bunch of other stuff that leads us to believe they are involved in multiple burglaries," Johnson said.
One of those items was a Porsche cleaning kit, he said.
"We don't have the ability to link this to anything, but if someone had something taken they can call us," he said. "These guys were hitting hard and they've probably put a lot of stuff in to pawn already."
Johnson said anyone who was the victim of a vehicle burglary recently can view the recovered items at the Carson City Sheriff's Department on Wednesday and Thursday.
Johnson said people should call 887-2020, ext. 1400 with their case numbers to make an appointment.
