MOSCOW, Idaho -- Carson High graduate John Chirila led the Saint Mary's men's golf team to the team title at the Vandal Fall Classic.
Chirila, a senior, set a school record in the process. During Friday's first round, Chirila, an All-West Coast Conference first team choice during his career, fired the lowest round in school history when he shot an 8-under-par 63. After the first two rounds on Friday, Chirila was tied for the lead with a two-round total of 136.
On Saturday, Chirila posted a 72 to finish with a 5-under 208 to finish the event tied for second. The Gaels won the team title with a tournament total of 9-under 843, finishing five strokes ahead of host Idaho.
Chirila and the Gaels will resume action on Oct. 6 and Oct. 7 in the Wolf Pack Classic at Reno's Wolf Run Golf Course.
