An error on a double steal and a bad break on a line drive were the difference for the Carson High softball team in a 2-1 loss at Wooster on Tuesday.
Mandy Carvin was the tough luck loser as she allowed one unearned run while striking out five and holding Wooster to four hits in going the distance. "She pitched a great game," Carson coach Scott Vickrey said.
Jamie Yenter's RBI double tied it 1-1 for Carson in the second inning. In the top of the fifth, the Senators had runners at first and second with no outs, but Liz Rankl lined into a double play.
Then in the bottom of the fifth, Wooster had runners at first and second with two outs when it pulled off a double steal. Wooster scored the go-head run on an error on the play.
Jessica Ashbaugh doubled and Katie Davis, Jessica Grant and Robin Conn all added hits for Carson (2-4 in the Sierra League).
"They played good ball," said Vickrey about his team. "There's a few things we need to work on."
