A memorial service for Overton W. Toombs, 76, a Silver Springs resident for the past seven years, will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Silver Springs Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Mr. Toombs died April 6, 2004, at Carson-Tahoe Hospital. He was born Feb. 8, 1928, in Madill, Okla., to Alfred Toombs and Myrtle Cox. He was preceded in death by his brother Clarence Sylvester and sister Nadine Kelly.
Prior to living in Silver Springs, he lived in Winsor, Calif.
He married Helen Leschke on Dec. 24, 1952, in Wickenburg, Ariz. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, crafts and decorating his home for the holidays.
He was a Protestant.
Mr. Toombs served in the U.S. Army.
Among his survivors are his wife of Silver Springs; sons Billy Wayne of Silver Springs and Allen Wesley of Kehei, Hawaii; daughters Barbara Carol Matlear of Carson City, Annette Kay Avilla of Shawnee, Okla., and Carol Lynn Coleman of Nice, Calif.; sisters Christine Schilling of Salem, Ore., and Geraldine Hallford of Lake Havasu, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Cremation is under the direction of FitzHenry's Crematory. FitzHenry's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
