Friends of 15-year-old Sarah Rovsek have planned a memorial service for 5 p.m. Thursday at Douglas High School.
The day is Sarah's birthday, when she would have been 16. She died from injuries in an all-terrain vehicle accident near Smith Valley on April 4.
At the service, a friend of Sarah's will commemorate her life by singing a song he wrote.
"I don't know what it's about," Sarah's mother Barbara Smith said. "He wanted me to hear it there for the first time."
The Douglas High Fighting Tiger Band may be there, and a slide show is planned.
"The ceremony itself is being put together by all her friends," she said. "I had five or six people at my house on Sunday and they're putting it together themselves."
A memorial fund has been established at the Bank of America in memory of Sarah.
"The proceeds will go to the Douglas High School Band for the benefit of those enjoying what Sarah cherished most in life - music," her mother said.
Sarah played the tenor saxophone in the school band. She also played the alto sax, the clarinet and the guitar.
"Any instrument she picked up she could play," mom said.
The account number for donations at the Bank of America is 004961921224. Donations may be made at any bank.
"She was full of life and she wouldn't want her death to be the cause of all the sadness, you know," Smith said. "I can't put it into words."
Friends are also planning to display her pictures, she said.
