RENO, Nev. (AP) - Three people were killed in two separate accidents on U.S. 395 south of Reno that occurred in the same area within 12 hours of each other.

Two people died in a pre-dawn crash Tuesday and two others were injured when a green Saturn traveling north hit a guard rail and careened into the southbound lanes around 4:30 a.m., the Nevada Highway Patrol said.

The accident occurred at the north end of Pleasant Valley, a scenic stretch on the main route between Reno and Carson City.

Monday afternoon, a 25-year-old Sparks man was killed and a 58-year-old Carson City man was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash in the same vicinity, the patrol said.

Trooper Chuck Allen said the Sparks man was heading south around 4:10 p.m. when his white Saturn crossed into northbound lanes, striking a van driven by Lance Morrison.

Morrison was flown to Washoe Medical Center with broken bones and possible internal injuries, the patrol said.

Names of the other victims were not immediately released.

The wrecks tied up traffic in both directions for hours.
