Racing at Madera Speedway in Madera, Calif., co-owner of the S&S Motorsports sprint car Steve Shaw said it may not have been their best first outing, but car and driver improved over the duration of the 100-lap feature event.

"We had to chase some little bugs in the car and of course we had to compensate for that," Shaw said.

Driver Troy Regier of Dinuba, Calif. drove his first race in a sprint car set up for asphalt racing. He qualified 20th and finished 14th.

"I think the laps did Troy some good," Shaw said. "We learned some things and moved on from there. But Troy got faster as the night went on. It was just one of those races with the little things that went wrong."

Shaw said Regier took the early part of the race easy.

"It would have been good to have everything go really well, but it didn't. We're hoping with how we did and what we learned we can just go forward."

Shaw and co-owner Tom Silsby may take the sprint car to Meridian Speedway in Meridian, Idaho for a two-night race in September.

The team also runs a super modified and will next compete in that series at Madera Sept. 18. Regier is going for his 50th career win in a super modified racecar.
