MOUND HOUSE - A fire Tuesday afternoon that destroyed a travel trailer and threatened federal land has been deemed suspicious by authorities.
Located behind Little John's Auto Wrecking off Kit Kat Road, the 27-foot Air Stream was fully engulfed inflames when Central Lyon County Fire District Crews arrived about 4:30 p.m., said training officer Bob Kielty.
He said it didn't appear anyone was home at the time, and investigators were trying to identify and locate the trailer's owner.
Flames jumped into the surrounding wildlands, but were quickly knocked down, Kielty said.
"We were real lucky," he said, noting the strong winds blowing from the west. "With these winds, it could have taken off."
Lyon County Sheriff's Detective Rob Hall said police were called to the trailer earlier in the day for a domestic dispute involving a man, his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend.
By the time police arrived, one of the parties had left, and a report was taken.
Investigators are trying to determine if the two incidents are related, Hall said.
The fire investigation is being handled by the State Fire Marshal's Office, Lyon County and the Sheriff's Department.
