Two games into the Northern Nevada Roller Hockey League, Kevin Dwyer and Dustin Zastre have emerged as a hot combo for the Carson Senators.

Dwyer scored two first-period goals, both assisted by Zastre, to put the Carson hockey club on track to a 6-3 victory against McQueen Friday night at the Sierra Ice & Sportsplex in Sparks. Dwyer finished with three goals and Zastre contributed one goal and three assists as the Senators improved their season record to 2-0 in a game they led start to finish.

Carson led 2-0 at the end of one period and 5-1 at the end of two periods.

"We were pretty much in control, but they (McQueen) did a good job. They're much improved over last year," Carson coach Billy McHenry said.

Dwyer now has five goals while Zastre has three goals and six assists through two games. Both scored goals in the final 1:15 of play two weeks ago when Carson rallied for a 7-5 season-opening win over Reed.

Zastre is a defenseman who plays a prominent role on both ends of the rink.

"He's the quarterback of our power play, one of those guys who sees the ring clearly and can distribute the puck to the right area for the forwards," McHenry said.

Eric Hastings and Matt Miller also scored goals against McQueen, while Charlie Macquarrie contributed two assists.

Travis Hall (2-0) turned in another strong performance in the goal for the Senators, with relief help from backup Rich Copeland, who allowed no goals during his seven minutes at the end of the game.

Both Carson J.V. teams emerged as winners, as Carson Blue defeated McQueen 8-2 and Carson White defeated Bishop Manogue 12-1.

Carson returns to action Friday against Wooster at 7 p.m. at the Sierra Ice & Sportsplex. The Senators play again the following Saturday, Dec. 18, at 10 a.m. against Fallon.
