A memorial service for Laura M. Flaxa, 97, a Carson City resident for the past 17 years, will be at 1 p.m. Dec. 11 at St. Paul's Lutheran Family Church.
Mrs. Flaxa died Dec. 2, 2004, in Carson City.
She was born in Elk Grove, Calif., to Thomas and Annie Nichols Sept. 8, 1907.
Mrs. Flaxa attended Sacramento High School and after graduation obtained a California Life Certificate, enabling her to teach. She was a career teacher and taught first through eighth grades in one-room schools in Perkins and Benton, Calif., and second grade for many years in the River Delta School District in Sacramento County.
After retiring, she lived in South Lake Tahoe until moving to Carson City in 1987.
She was preceded in death by her infant daughter Justine; brother William Nichols; sisters Leola Housken and Phyllis Nichols; and grandson Peter Rogers.
Among her survivors are her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Marcie of Las Vegas; daughter Lorna Rogers of Sparks; grandsons Rob Flaxa and Jeff and Scott Rogers; granddaughters Liz Sabo, Jill Williamsen and Shanon Alexander; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
Donations in her name may be made to a favorite charity.
FitzHenry's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
